ALMOST 20 MONTHS AND STILL NO PROGRESS AT BALLARTO RD

In February 2019, almost 20 months ago and in an election year, Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced a $30 million upgrade of Ballarto Rd in Skye.

More than a year and a half has gone by and nothing has been done. Worse, the federal government’s inaction is heavily impacting the state government’s intersection upgrade at Lyrebird Drive.

Federal Member for Dunkley Peta Murphy MP has called on the federal government to get on with their pre-election promise to avoid heavy delays of other major projects.

“For almost 20 months, we haven’t heard a word out of the federal government about this upgrade, our community needs and deserves certainty,” Ms Murphy said.

“We know the Morrison Government is always there for the photo op, let’s hope they are there for the follow up.”

This follows a Channel 9 News exclusive where it was revealed that from the $400 million budgeted in 2019/20 in the Urban Congestion Fund, the federal government has only spent $148 million.

Ballarto Rd is one of the projects being left in the dark.

On average, the Morrison Government underspends on their Budget promises by over $1.2 billion a year.

“Australians need jobs now. It is essential that the Ballarto Rd upgrade is delivered now, not years down the line.”
