PETA MURPHY MP
MEMBER FOR DUNKLEY

PETA MURPHY APPOINTED TO ECONOMICS COMMITTEE

Federal Member for Dunkley Peta Murphy MP has been appointed as a member of the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Economics.

Current Economic Committee inquiries include how financial institutions, including the big 4 banks, have implemented the Royal Commission’s recommendations and other inquiries into the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA), Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

“I have been contacted by local residents who have been directly impacted by the misconduct in the banking, superannuation and financial services industry. I’m looking forward to bringing those local’s experiences to the inquiry and to scrutinising the implementation of the Royal Commission’s findings to ensure that the system is fairer,” Ms Murphy said.

“This is a terrific opportunity to ensure that our community can directly scrutinise economic matters, especially during the pandemic and recession. I encourage anyone who has issues relating to banks, the ACCC, ASIC or superannuation funds to contact me. I am very concerned about the government’s attacks on superannuation and will be vigilant in making sure our community’s needs are heard.”

Peta Murphy will continue to serve on the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Social Policy and Legal Affairs and the House of Representatives Selection Committee.
