JULIA GILLARD DELIVERS INAUGURAL LOUISA DUNKLEY ORATION
On Friday, Former Prime Minister the Hon Julia Gillard AC delivered the inaugural Louisa Dunkley Oration. The Oration, an initiative of Ms Murphy’s is a free community event.
“All those who care deeply about creating a better and more equitable world stand on the shoulders of giants like Louisa Dunkley, the trailblazers who marked out the path for us.” Ms Gillard said.
“We are well positioned to have a real debate about the kind of leadership we want for the future.”
Federal Member for Dunkley Peta Murphy MP and Monash University Peninsula campus hosted the oration honouring Louisa Dunkley, the namesake of the Dunkley electorate, who in the late 1800’s fought for equal pay for women in Australia.
“We were incredibly fortunate to have Julia Gillard keynote the event, she is such an impressive individual and her insights were invaluable for all in attendance” Ms Murphy said.
“Thank you to Project O Representatives and Monterey Secondary College students Ceena-Jasmin and Bethany and Frankston High School’s Michaela Goggin for their outstanding contributions to the night.”
The event brought together the Dunkley community and local students and included an address from Professor Margaret Gardner AC, the first female Vice Chancellor of Monash University.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the event was delivered online with hundreds attending the event virtually.
The Oration will continue to be an annual event, delivered each year by a person who is known for their dedication to the principles demonstrated by Louisa: fairness, equality and community.
