OVER 700 NEW BOOKS FOR BANYAN FIELDS PRIMARY SCHOOL

Banyan Fields Primary School in Carrum Downs has purchased over 700 new non-fiction books thanks to $12,500 in funding from the Dunkley Local Schools Community Fund.

Federal Member for Dunkley, Peta Murphy MP recently visited the school and met with students to talk about encouraging greater engagement in classroom learning.

“This is such a great initiative. The school library now has new books to encourage reading and increase literacy skills” Ms Murphy said.

“Research shows that children read 50 to 60 percent more in classrooms with libraries than without them. We all know that reading expands horizons and sparks imagination.”

“Banyan Fields Primary School is a terrific local school. I’m very proud to support our community with this funding.”

The Dunkley Local Schools Community Fund delivers funding to assist schools with small capital works and equipment purchases.
